Solaris is a computer operating system developed by Sun Microsystems. It is certified against the Single Unix Specification as a version of Unix, and although historically a closed source project, has since been open sourced by Sun Microsystems. It is now one of the single largest open source projects in the community, and continues to grow in both features, members and applications.
