Education Overview

  • The Unix User Group (UUG) meets periodically. Each meeting includes a presentation on a topic of interest to Unix users.
  • The Introduction to Unix class is aimed at beginning unix/linux users. This one day course will take beginning users to the next level in their understanding of unix/linux and prepare them for taking the Unix System Administrator EdCert course.
  • The USSG offers an Educational Certification course for Unix system administrators (EdCert). This nine day course is designed for advanced users and budding system administrators. The course pre-requisite is to pass one of the following, either; take and pass the ItU class, or take and pass the EdCert pretest.
  • In addition, the IT Training and Education Program (formerly UITS Education program) offers a number of useful Unix related classes.
  • USSG has developed a Unix System Administration Independent Learning (USAIL) project. USAIL is a learning tool that integrates Web-based information, books, tutorials, and video into a comprehensive course for Unix users of all levels. Please note the USAIL project is no longer under development and some sections may be out of date.

The Unix Systems Support Group (aka USSG) is a subunit of the Research Computing (RC) division of University Information Technology Services (UITS).
The USSG provides software, support, and resources to faculty, staff, and students at Indiana University who use or administer Unix/Linux workstations or servers.
